A truck accident in Barren County results in serious injuries and a wrongful death after a semi-truck crossed the center line into oncoming traffic. The accident occurred on a rural road near Cave City, Kentucky. A tractor-trailer was driving westbound when he crossed the center line and hit an oncoming commercial vehicle. The truck then struck a Ford van driven by a Louisville man as well as a Nissan pickup truck driven by a man from the local area.
The driver of the truck responsible for the accident as well as the driver of the Ford van lost their lives. Two others were transported to the hospital with injuries.
Kentucky State Police are still investigating the reason for the driver of the semi-truck to cross the center line. Driving under the influence and driver fatigue have not been ruled out at this time. The drivers of the oncoming commercial vehicle as well as the injured occupants of the Ford van and the pickup truck will need to file a personal injury claim to recover all medical costs and expenses related to their injuries and for having to endure the road to recovery.
The family of the driver of the Ford van may file a wrongful death action under Kentucky law. There is no amount of money which can replace the loss of a loved one. However, Kentucky law provides financial compensation to the family of those who lose their lives due to the negligence of another. This can help to replace lost income, as well as compensation for the loss of time a family would have shared. Our laws provide compensation for the loss of the love and companionship of a spouse, parent or child.
