What is the value of uninsured (UM)or underinsured (UIM) motorist coverage in Louisville and throughout Kentucky?  We are often contacted with questions about property damage and injuries received in accidents where the driver who caused the car accident was uninsured or left the scene of the accident.

You should have Uninsured Motorist Coverage (UM) under your automobile insurance policy (often listed as UM/UIM) which would cover this type of “hit and run” or uninsured driver. Also, without the optional UIM coverage under your policy, it may be likely that you would not be able to fully recover for your injuries, other financial expenses, and damages. Here in Kentucky our state laws establish the minimum requirement for insurance automobile insurance to be $25,000 for bodily injury, $50,000 for all bodily injuries associated with a single accident (when more than one person is injured) $10,000 in property damage liability and $10,000 in Personal Injury Protection or “PIP”. However, Kentucky does not require drivers to have UIM insurance coverage. Accordingly, many people do not have coverage for serious accidents, or if you are hit by an uninsured driver.
