Dangerous intersections
It seems at least every town or county has at least one dangerous intersection that locals are wary of after seeing plenty of accidents over the years.
When an intersection claims lives or leaves people injured, is responsibility solely on the drivers? What about the entities responsible for planning and maintaining our roads?
According to WHAS11, “74 year old Louise Cundiff of Cecilia, Kentucky, was killed when her car crashed into another car that had pulled into the intersection.
“53-year-old William Cundiff was driving a 1986 Ford Crown Victoria northbound on Patriot Parkway and Louise was a passenger. 21-year-old Kalin Sleeper of Vine Grove was driving a 2006 Toyota Camry.
Sleeper was stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of Deckard School Rd. and Patriot Pkwy. For unknown reasons he pulled onto northbound Patriot Pkwy. into the path of the Cundiffs who struck the front right corner of his Camry.”
According to local residents of Hardin County, this particular intersection has been plagued with accidents in recent years. This begs the question: could this and similar accidents have been prevented by proper planning and safety measures?
Intersections can be particulary hazardous when combined with careless or inattentive drivers, resulting in T-Bone accidents, head-on collissions and other motor vehicle accidents.
However, these tragic accidents are not always the result of negligent motorists; many count poor planning by government entities as a contributing factor.
When an accident such as the one above occurs, it leads an experienced personal injury attorney to ask questions such as:
- Was there appropriate signage at the intersection?
- Were signs obstructed?
- Were there functioning stop lights at the intersection?
- Was the intersection a four-way stop? If not, should it be?
These are questions that are soon to be asked in the coming days, and we hope that local authorities can find answers that lead to preventive measures being taken to prevent future accidents.
